Blog Editor (3 open positions)

The editors are responsible for running the Arcadiana blog. They are in charge of the blog’s direction, issuing general or themed calls for papers, and contacting universities and PGR/ECR forums to invite contributions from a wide range of research areas.

Tasks include:

  • Issuing general or themed calls for posts on the ARCADIANA blog.
  • Liaising with authors as well as university departments and networks to increase the reach of the blog.
  • Assessing pitches and selecting pieces for publication.
  • Copy-editing: assisting authors with clarity, structure, and style—also addressing language barriers, where possible and necessary.
  • Proofreading final submissions.
  • Online editing: preparing posts for publication, managing WordPress content, and keeping the website up to date.
  • Liaising with other sections of EASLCE when necessary (e.g., EASLCE Webinar coordinators for webinar summaries; EASLCE webmaster for website issues; ECOZON@ editors for policies and statements about plagiarism and AI usage).
  • Liaising with the ARCADIANA Communications Officer, who will advertise new posts, calls for papers, and other important blog-related information on social media.
  • Optional: Organizing workshops on publishing op-eds and creative writing for new writers at the MA, PhD, and ECR levels (in collaboration with the events coordinator), providing participants the opportunity to publish the writing they develop during workshops on the blog.

Workload: Co-editors will be responsible for monitoring the email inbox, preparing calls for posts, and assisting with editorial tasks. The work can be divided on a monthly basis, with one editor taking a lead role every three months, or it can be shared by all editors at the same time. Editors are appointed for 12 months, with the possibility of extension. Workload varies depending on the number of submissions to the blog, but it will rarely exceed 5-10 hours per month.

Preferably, editors are involved in the field of environmental humanities and have an interest in promoting it beyond academia, making ecocritical research accessible to a wider audience. They should have a keen eye for detail and be able to communicate with a wide range of scholars at different career levels. Previous editorial experience, a basic understanding of WordPress, and knowledge of any additional languages besides English would be desirable but are not essential.

How to Apply:

Interested candidates are invited to send their applications via email. Your application should include:

• Updated CV: Highlighting any relevant experience, especially in editorial roles or the environmental humanities field.

Please email your application materials to [email protected].

The application deadline is November 15th, 2024.
