Working Notes on Lara’s poem:
When I set out on the project to unframe Wordsworth, I was hesitant to say the least. To me, it felt challenging to an extent that I doubted I could create a piece that could relate blatantly unemotional material to the vision of the picturesque from Wordsworth’s poem. It wasn’t until I found myself sitting in the midst of a cut-up speaker manual and advertisement for a local tourist
hotspot that I dared to break from a tradition in which I felt perfectly comfortable. But the break was inevitable. The words I chose, relating predominantly to the sense of sound and movement, began conforming to an idea of “sprightly dance”, infringed by technical requirements and still
upholding the notion of being in one’s senses. Looking back on it now, my poem reflects much more the process of its creation than the relation to the original text. But in the end, I found something to say, even if the words weren’t my own.
